2. Choose how you sign in

On first launch Schuly asks how you want to use it. There are two modes - you can change your mind later, so don't overthink it.

Self-hosting? Pick your server first

Just before the mode choice, Schuly asks which server to use. Almost everyone should keep Schuly Cloud (the default). If you run your own Schuly backend, choose Self-hosted and enter its URL - Schuly verifies it's reachable (and reports its version) before continuing. Either mode below then talks to whichever server you picked.

Account mode (recommended for most people)

You sign in with a Schuly account. Your data is synced and kept up to date for you in the background, so the app opens fast and stays current across devices.

• Easiest, and the app refreshes your data on its own.
• Same data on every device you sign in on.
• Your school data is stored on the Schuly backend so it can be synced.

Private / secure mode (privacy-first)

No Schuly account, no Schuly login. You connect directly to your school system, and your credentials stay only on your device. Schuly fetches your data live and stores nothing on its servers.

• Maximum privacy - nothing about your school data lives on Schuly's servers.
• Still works with the same schools.
• Data is fetched live, so it loads when you open the app rather than syncing in the background.
